Abstract

Electric vehicles (EVs) are automobiles powered by electric motors instead of internal combustion engines. They use rechargeable batteries to store and supply energy for propulsion. EVs offer several advantages, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved energy efficiency, and decreased dependence on fossil fuels.
Charging infrastructure plays a crucial role in supporting widespread adoption of electric vehicles. Public charging stations are strategically placed in parking lots, shopping centers, and other convenient locations to provide charging access to EV owners who do not have home charging capabilities. Additionally, workplaces and residential buildings are increasingly installing charging stations to accommodate EV owners.
EV chargers are devices used to replenish the battery of an electric vehicle. They come in various types and charging speeds:
- Level 1 Chargers: These chargers use a standard household outlet (120 ~220 volts) and provide the slowest charging rate. They are typically included with the purchase of an EV and are convenient for overnight charging at home. However, they require more time to fully charge the vehicle, ranging from 8 to 20 hours.
- Level 2 Chargers: Level 2 chargers operate on a 240 volt power supply, commonly found in residential garages or public charging stations. They offer faster charging speeds compared to Level 1 chargers, typically providing an average of 20-30 miles of range per hour of charging. Level 2 chargers are ideal for regular charging at home or workplace locations.
- DC Fast Chargers: DC fast chargers, also known as Level 3 chargers, provide the fastest charging speeds available. They use direct current (DC) power and can replenish an EV battery to 80% capacity in as little as 20-30 minutes, depending on the vehicle model. DC fast chargers are typically found in public charging stations along highways or at commercial locations.
